Beamy's Happy Crafts

Make Your Own Beamy!

You will need:

Yellow felt
Thread or yarn
Fluff for stuffing
A needle

pins
A pencil

A ruler (optional)

Scissors
Printed out pattern

Making Beamy requires very minor sewing skills.  Here are some tips before you start:

If you are using yarn, remember you will not want to double the string as it will make it hard to pull through.

If you are using thread, you will need thick thread, like embroidery thread, for Beamy’s face.

The stitches of Beamy do not need to be tiny.  Remember to have fun!

There is also a video explaining how to make Beamy.  Click here How to make your own plush Beamy - YouTube

Step 1:

Your fabric should look like this at the end of Step1

Print out the pattern below.  The measurements on the pattern will help you know if the pattern prints in the correct size.  The pattern has two pieces: the back of Beamy and the front (face side) of Beamy.  After cutting out the paper pattern, pin it to the felt and cut the felt by cutting around the paper pattern.  (Or after pinning the paper pattern to the felt, trace around the paper pattern, remove the paper, and cut by following the line you traced.)

Step 2:

Put the front side of Beamy (the piece with the sunbeams) on a flat surface to draw Beamy’s face before you embroider it on.  The face can be as simple or complex as you want it.  I recommend the simple way which is one curved line for a mouth and two circles for eyes.  Sometimes, I like to add a small line on either end of the mouth and two small eyelashes on the upper sides of the eyes.

The front of Beamy's face should look like this at the end of Step3

Step 4:

Step 3:

After threading your needle and knotting the end, begin stitching along the mouth.  (If you want the little lines on either end of the mouth, put a small stitch perpendicular to the end of the mouth.)   When stitching Beamy’s face, you make a stitch and then come back up through the felt as close to the first stitch as possible to make it look like a continuous line.  When you have finished a feature of Beamy’s face, knot the string on the back side of the felt close to the fabric.  Cut the remaining string off.  Then continue sewing the next feature.  All knots should be on the back side of the felt (the side which will be inside Beamy and where the stitches do not look like a continuous line).

The back of Beamy's face should look something like this at the end of Step 3

After you have embroidered all of Beamy’s face, put the back of Beamy up against the front side of Beamy. Make sure Beamy’s face is facing out.  Sew around the edge of the circle - leaving a hole to put stuffing into Beamy.  When you have finished stuffing Beamy,  finish sewing around and knot the thread in the back.

Step 5:  Congradulations!

Your Beamy is complete!!!  And, of course, you can give it whatever name you want because Beamy actually comes from her last name Beambright.  We also would love to see a picture of your Beamy!  You can email a photo to happybeamy@outlook.com .  If you take your Beamy on any adventures, you can send us pictures of that, too!
